This season, for the cover, we have given carte blanche to Patricia Urquiola. Born in Oviedo, Spain, in 1961.
A graduate from the Madrid Polytechnic Institute (UPM) she pursued her education at the Milan Polytechnic Institute with Achille Castiglioni as her treatise supervisor.
From 1990 to 1992, she became the master’s lecture assistant at the Milan Polytechnic Institute and also taught at the ENSCI in Paris.
From 1990 to 1996 Patricia Urquiola worked as director of the office of development for De Padova, she designed the interiors of many restaurants and stores in Spain, France, Japan, Italy…
In 1996 she was appointed as head of the associate design group Lissoni and worked in particular for Alessi, Antares-Flos, Artelano, Boffi, Cappellini, Cassina and Kartell. In 2001 she opened her own agency and also developed a freelance activity designing products for B&B, Bosa, De Vecchi, Fasem, Kartell, Liv’it, MDF, Molteni & C., Moroso and Tronconi...
She worked on the design of the Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona and the W in Puerto Rico. Elected designer of the year in 2003 by Elle Deco International, 2006 Designer for Wallpaper magazine, today she is celebrated at the french design show Now! Design à vivre 2008.
