The proposal to demolish Robin Hood Gardens (1968 - 1972), one of the most important schemes designed by Alison and Peter Smithson, has featured prominently in the media and hooked the attention of the architectural community. See recent photographs by Ioana Marinescu of the twin slab blocks, along with archival images and a documentary film by Martin Ginestie, giving a fresh interpretation of the formal quality of the architecture, the integration of the estate in the transformed landscape around London's docklands, and the intimate lives of its residents.

"Most people spend their lives living in dreary, beige conformity, mortally afraid of using colours. The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting." - Verner Panton
Over a career that spanned almost half a century, Panton emerged as one of the most colourful, imaginative, innovative and forward-looking designers of the 20th century. This exhibition showcases more than 100 of his chairs, lamps, textiles and sculptures, seeking to capture the diversity of his works, which contributed significantly to the development of design in the latter half of the 20th century.

In the 19th century, developments in transport and a growing interest in archaeology meant that the journey to Italy was no longer the preserve of a few students from the école des Beaux-arts in Paris who had been awarded the Grand Prix de Rome. The visit beyond the Alps became a necessary part of architectural training.

In the Jack Freak Pictures Gilbert & George continue to portray life and the cityscape as experienced by the archetypal modern man and to delineate the morals of human existence, from the profound to the rudimentary.
As in all of their art, the artists themselves are again protagonists; vehicles to hint at future contemporary life, both from a spiritual and material point of view. They are depicted expressionless and ʻexpressionfulʼ as the embodiment of normality, in perpetual progression towards an inevitable fate, perhaps simply a commentary on manʼs mortality.

This exhibition presents a series of discrete installations by Aernout Mik (Dutch, b. 1962), placed in both non-gallery and gallery spaces throughout the Museum. Mik—whose work encompasses motion picture, sculpture, architecture, performance, and social commentary—interrogates the nature of reality and subverts the traditional relationship between viewer and viewed. The exhibition includes eight time-based works, including Mik's earliest 16mm film Fluff (1996), shown on television monitors in several locations.

By presenting the work of seven contemporary artists, this exhibition investigates the narrative possibilities of the traces, marks and vestiges our actions leave behind. The exhibition's curator Xavier Ribas explains that the aim is to show "the relationship of photography as a trace and with traces, both as a technological device and as an aesthetic discourse, within representation and narration processes that circulate between reality and fiction".

Poor. Old. Tired. Horse. is an exhibition that takes an imaginative and expansive look at text-based art practices from the 1960s to the present day. In particular the exhibition is inspired by the example of Concrete Poetry, a movement that flowered in the 60s but which is now largely forgotten. Concrete Poetry explored the graphic potential of language alongside its poetic and literary possibilities, and so too do the works in this exhibition, which includes works by figures who emerged in the 60s alongside those of younger, contemporary artists.

In partnership with the Ethnographical Museum of Russia, the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation is presenting an exhibition of 19th and 20th century popular Russian dress.

The Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent Foundation is presenting some of his most personal work. One can but admire his masterful technique, whilst being moved by the emotion that wells up at every instant. Built around various themes - fragmented bodies, nudes and portraits along with a final dazzling sequence of orchids - the works exhibited here combine an utmost concern for formalism with the most refined sensuality.

Stop recycling, start repairing !
Platform21 = Repairing starts from the notion that repair, as a creative, cultural and economical force is underestimated. With this, an incredibly rich body of knowledge, a part of our independence and pleasure could be lost. This situation is especially puzzling if you consider the global interest in other durable visions like recycling, and the cradle-to-cradle philosophy. Hence Platform21 = Repairing wants to create more awareness of a mentality, culture and practice that not so long ago was completely integrated in life and the way we designed it. It is not too late though.

Under the heading "La vie possible", the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is devoting the largest retrospective exhibition in the German-speaking area since 1991 to Christian Boltanski. It surveys the development of this artist’s oeuvre since the mid-1980s, beginning with a series of the most famous Monuments. The main focus of the exhibition, however, is on his works of the past fifteen years. In a representative cross-section through all the groups of this time-period, plus works produced specially for the exhibition, La vie possible aims to facilitate an experience of the vitality with which the artist explores the possibilities of life itself, "real" life, but also collective life: la vie possible – not only is life basically possible, it is also full of potential for further development.

Working as her own model for more than thirty years, Sherman has endlessly transformed herself to address the complexities of identity through her photographs, which she fully controls as author, director, and stylist. A consummate performer, Sherman captures every possible distortion of her face and body on camera, drastically manipulating her weight or shape, coaxing the most nuanced expressions from her supple features, and refining every detail, from fingernails to props. Over time she has assumed a myriad of identities, from fraught adolescent to suburban housewife to social vamp to Renaissance aristocrat, claiming as her own the vast range of social and psychological spaces that women have inhabited throughout history.

Tate Modern celebrates the centenary of this dramatic art movement with a ground-breaking exhibition. Futurism was launched by the Italian poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1909 with the publication of the Manifesto of Futurism on the front page of Paris newspaper Le Figaro. Drawing upon elements of Divisionism and Cubism, the Futurists created a new style that broke with old traditions and expressed the dynamism, energy and movement of their modern life.

Robert Rauschenberg: Gluts will feature a selected group of approximately forty sculptures drawn from the holdings of institutions and private collections in the United States and abroad. After breaking boundaries with his celebrated Combines, in the late 1950s, his explorations of technology-based art that made viewers active participants in the 1960s, and his focus on natural-fiber materials of paper, cardboard, and fabric throughout the 1970s, Rauschenberg’s artistic attention in the 1980s turned toward an exploration of the visual properties of metal.

The Viennese architects Christian Jabornegg and András Pálffy have been dealing with historical substance in a particularly analytical way. The architects neither want the isolated building nor the architectural design value to predominate, but ask for the context as a basic reference for any structural interference. They understand »Building in context« as a complex and differentiated interrelation of existing structures, development planning, architectural quality and constructive solutions. Loud colours, strange patterns and concise narratives are what characterise the photographs of Martin Parr (born in Bristol in 1952). While some of his images may seem over the top, they are always astonishingly inventive and richly humorous. Over the last thirty years, Parr has been documenting Western society, and in particular his fellow citizens of the United Kingdom.

Over the past decade, she has combined both ancient sculptural methods and the latest 3-D computer technologies to produce a powerful group of sculptures that fuse human and animal bodies or human and flora forms. At mid-century MoMA played a leading role in the definition and dissemination of so-called Good Design, a concept that took shape in the 1930s and emerged with new relevance in the decades following World War II. This installation presents selections from MoMA's design collection that illuminate the primary values of Good Design as promoted (and disputed) by museums, design councils, and department stores.
