A major exhibition organised by Platinum Guild International, 5th – 30th November 2008, Triennale di Milano, Italy Eternal Platinum transforms the platinum wedding ring into extraordinary works made by seven designers, seven fashion designers, and seven jewellery designers all exponents of Italian design excellence.
In the exhibition curated by Alba Cappellieri, professor of jewellery design at the Politecnico di Milano, the platinum wedding ring becomes a source of inspiration and a showcase of design ingenuity from three creative disciplines: design, fashion and jewellery.
The platinum wedding ring is the ultimate symbol of eternal love uniting two people: rare, hard-wearing and precious – like platinum. For the first time, the platinum wedding ring has been reinterpreted by Italian masters of design. Eternal Platinum provides the perfect link between design, fashion and jewellery involving professionals who are very different in terms of the sectors in which they work. From Fabergé to Cartier, the world’s greatest jewellery designers have always preferred working with pure platinum; it is uniquely ductile and durable and lends itself to magnificent and unique ideas. An alloy that is 95% pure, platinum is hypoallergenic and never loses its white patina: the perfect jewellery metal. Italian jewellery design is in the vanguard, and the exhibition showcases the best of design around. Sergio Asti, Antonia Astori, Andrea Branzi, Pierluigi Cerri, Aldo Cibic, Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola for design, Albino D’Amato, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gianfranco Ferré, Alberta Ferretti, Pierluigi Fucci, Antonio Marras, Debora Sinibaldi for fashion, Giampaolo Babetto, Gabriele De Vecchi, Alba Polenghi Lisca, GianCarlo Montebello, Rossella Tornquist, Giorgio Vigna, Annamaria Zanella for jewellery, have used platinum’s exceptional qualities to explore the symbolism of the wedding ring.
