The history of tea is directly linked to the history of the tea-cup becoming an aesthetic object. Ceramics from the twelfth to the twenty-first century – tea-cups from the MAK Collection from China, Korea, Japan as well as loans from private collections – demonstrate that diversity was discovered in the reduction of form to its essentials. This idea is taken up in the installation “ Door of Eternity” by Heinz Frank, which can be seen in the center of the room.

Probably the best-known artist in his field, Turrell's entire oeuvre since the 1960s has been devoted to exploring the diverse manifestations of this immaterial medium and working towards a new, space-defining form of light art. While light here refers to nothing beyond itself, it causes surface, colour and space to interact and allows viewers to immerse themselves in a mysterious, painterly world.
