Designer
Fashion designer and producer of her own accessories’ brand named SOTO, she includes in her cv special projects of designing staff clothes for design hotels such as ES Hotel and Ripa All Suites Hotel in Rome, Therme of Vals in Switzerland.
Barbara started working in projects on design in developing countries in 2000 (Uruguay, Mexico, Sudan, Kenya), in 2003 she started cooperating with UNIDO to develop projects of “made in” in african countries (Morocco, Ethiopia).
Barbara always believed in the importance of the dialogue among different disciplines which all give an added value to each experience she is confronted with.
After all these experiences she is focused on the development of ethical behaviour in fashion.
Label
Taytu, the first luxury ethical accessories label to emerge from Ethiopia, was born in 2006. Supported by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), Cooperazione Italiana and USAid, this completely Ethiopian-owned company aims to enhance the image of Ethiopia worldwide. Taytu is completely produced in Ethiopia, a country so rich in art, culture and history since time began, featuring leather bags and accessories which balance artisan handicraft, fashion, culture and an innovative and reinvented use of traditional raw materials, creating highly individual and contemporary pieces, each with ethical value. The label TAYTU is an apt name, as Empress Taytu was the strong-willed and highly independent Queen of Ethiopia in the early twentieth century.
