MODEM Europe Fall Winter 19/20

EDITION DEDICATED TO ‘‘MICHAEL JACKSON : ON THE WALL’’ For this edition, which is dedicated to the Fall/Winter 2018-19 season, Modem is giving “carte blanche” to Exhibition “Michael Jackson : On the Wall’’ at the Grand Palais of Paris. This exhibition explores the cultural impact of Michael Jackson’s personality and work in the field of contemporary art from the 1980s to the present day. Michael Jackson born in Gary, Indiana, an industrial city in the Midwestern United States, in 1958, is the first black musician to achieve international fame and to transcend the barriers, stereotypes and prejudices that had previously limited opportunities for African-American artists. He is one of the most influential cultural figures of the 20th century, and his legacy continues into the 21st century. While it has always been considered a reference in the world of music, video clips, dance and fashion, its impact on contemporary art has never been addressed and has never been the subject of an international exhibition like this one. His influence and fame continue unabated, and the issues he has raised as a social phenomenon, particularly in terms of identity, race and fame, are still relevant. His songs, choreographies and video clips reflect Michael Jackson’s extraordinary artistic destiny, an inspiration to many artists: Andy Warhol, Yan Pei-Ming, Keith Haring, Kehinde Wiley, David Lachapelle, Lorraine O’Grady, Isaac Julien. ..
