6 DESIGNER Andrea Branzi architect and designer, born in Florence in 1938. From 1964 to 1974, he was one of the founders of the group Archizoom Associés . With its Radical Design, Archizoom lays the foundations of the currents that are at the origin of the creation of Alchymia and Memphis . In 1969, Archizoom proposed a strange model: No Stop City (1969-1973), a model of endless City that mixes object, consumer society triumphant and architecture. Andrea Branzi is one of the most important theoreticians of New Design and his reflection led him to found in 1982, the school of design, Domus Academy in Milano, of which he will be director for 10 years. Since 1967, Andrea Branzi has left its imprint on industrial and experimental design, architecture, urban planning .... Twenty years later, in 1987 he received the prestigious Compasso d’Oro for his Work as a designer and theorist. He is a member of the commission for the development and promotion of design in the EC, he is also a professor of industrial design at the Politecnico de Milano and curator of the Museo del Design in Milano. His projects have been published by Alessi, Cassina, Memphis, Zanotta , his projects in limited series by the Design Gallery of Milano. In June 2008 Andrea Branzi is welcomed in Paris at the Fondation Cartier for Contemporary Art with Open Enclosures fragile, delicate and poetic installa- tions, which combine natural and artifice, industry and crafts. These hybrid structures reflect what Andrea Branzi calls a weak and diffuse modernity, where permeability, provisionality and flexibility are the key con- cepts of 21st century architecture and design.
