His detailed drawn and breathtaking comics books became a thrill not only for the American audience, but worldwide as well. His highly imaginative, almost abstract and surreal style helped him to create a wide range of science fiction and fantasy comics. At the early age of 18, Giraud was drawing his own humorous, two-page comics “Frank et Jeremie ” for the magazine Far West. Throughout the rest of the fifties he drew comics. In the early 1960’s Mœbius perfected his skills to Joseph Gillian. Together they produced 44 pages of comics Jerry Spring; that led directly to Blueberry , written by Jean-Michel Charlier for the comics magazine Pilote. Blueberry was successfully maintained up until 1990. In the mid 1970’s suppor- ted by his art colleagues, Moebius founded his own company Les Humanoides Associes . They started “Metal Hurlant” that imposed a very new, profound perception of comics as a pieces of art. Giraud served as conceptual artist for several fantasy and science-fiction movies, notably Alien (1979), Tron (1982), Willow (1988), and The Fifth Element (1997). Giraud has various awards for his art work.
