The North Miami City Council took a major step toward ensuring MOCA's continued future as a leader of the international contemporary art scene. The council voted unanimously on March 8 to enter into a contract with Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects, New York for the architectural and engineering design of the museum. The expansion will more than double MOCA's overall space to over 50,000 sq. feet.
The expansion, expected to be completed in 2013, will triple MOCA's exhibition space, enabling it to have exhibitions continuously on view and to show its acclaimed permanent collection year-round. The new facility will also house the MOCA Art Institute
