MEXICO CITY, the richiest man opens his museum

“ It is an ambitious project completely made by and for the Mexicans, with an investment which is reckoned in millions in a period of world recession ", declared Carlos Slim Helú , the tycoon of telecoms the day before the opening. Bet won with 2 593 visitors the first day.

March 29th was opened to the public the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City. Carlos Slim Helú, whose fortune is estimated at 74 billion dollars according to Forbes magazine, presents it his collection of art.
Among 66 000 art pieces, are present works of Cézanne, Renoir, Matisse, Léonard de Vinci, Diego Rivera, as well as coins and prehispanic and colonial documents, dating from the Spanish conquest of Mexico in the 16th century. This group of works also includes the biggest collection of Auguste Rodin's sculptures.

The construction of this new museum was given to the architect Fernando Romero, it looks as a honeycombed cube of 45 meters high and presents a space of 7 517 square meters.
