An international jury has chosen two designers among the 18 labels that showed at the University of Barcelona from Juy 12 to 15, 2011.

On the grounds of their creativity and innovation skills, the Barcelona 080 jury selected Manuel Bolaño Gómez for the women's collections and Karlota Laspalas for the men's collections.

Manuel Bolaño was born in Barcelona but grew up in Galicia. In 2002 he moved to Barcelona, where he studied fashion at the Felicidad Duce Higher School of Design and Fashion. In 2007 he won the prize for the best collection at Bread & Butter Barcelona. He took part in the Pasarela Abierta in Murcia, won prizes at the Young Creators Competition in Madrid and at the Festival Noovo in Santiago de Compostela, and was selected to take part in the Government of Catalonia’s Projecte Bressol.

Karlota Laspalas (Pamplona, 1981) is a young designer based in Barcelona. Her work is a constant observation of the human identity, of our fears, longings and hopes, based on observation and experimentation in our own lives. Her collections have been chosen to be part of numerous runway shows in Europe, for example in Bilbao, Murcia, Madrid, Udine, Amsterdam and Barcelona, and she has won several prizes in recognition of her work. In 2010 she received the prize for the best men’s collection AW10/11 for her collection “Fade to Black” at 080 Barcelona Fashion.

The jury included: Jean-Pierre Mocho, Chairman of the French Federation of Women’s Ready-to-wear, Muriel Piaser, PRÊT À PORTER PARIS® show director, Barbara Polowska, who founded BASIA after a decade-long career in interior design, Matthew Schneier, currently the news editor at Style.com, Meenal Mistry, fashion journalist and critic, Way Perry, creative director of Rollacoaster among others, and Jennifer Neyt, fashion journalist for Vogue.fr.
