Tradeshows

From the 3rd to the 6th of September 2011, the Who’s Next show will welcome 9 emerging talents who will show us their local traditions and savoir-faire through the story of "Tribal Princess".

"Tribal Princess" is the journey of a woman raised in the aristocracy who has disappeared into the jungle, in Borneo. The photos and commentaries narrate her story and are, to this day, the only account of her romantic adventure.

"Tribal Princess" is the story of a western woman who escapes her world to enter the jungle, precisely Sarawak’s primary forest. Her high heels take her to Borneo’s tribal tracks, Penan’s hatchet men, unsettled nomads whose principles of society are interdependence with nature and collective action in solidarity.

Through this woman’s journey of discovery, the reader discovers the traditional culture which has given the world the Malaysian designers who express themselves by means of textiles such as the caftan, batik – drawn by hand or stamped with a metal plaque –, tie-die print work, laser cutting, snake or crocodile skin.

An aesthetic, cultural and philosophical testimony, Malaysia appears to be a new challenger on both the Asian and international chessboard of fashion.
