Marie-Sophie Beinke, a master student in the fashion section of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, was named winner of the first edition of the Future Fashion Designer Scholarship (FFDS) - a 10 000 euros worth fashion scholarship, aiming to support aspiring fashion designers to work in a sustainable way.

"We received dozens of impressive applications from all over the world," said FFDS Founder Bruno Pieters in an official statement. "How wonderful it was it to discover that there are talented young designers out there who are starting to think differently and want to create a new and responsible fashion industry. We hope to give more FFDS scholarships in the future."

Beinke was able to convince Pieters with her conscious approach to fashion design and life in general. "I want to include, in my working process, a moment where I really think about the materials I want to use and see how sustainable and transparent they are," said the 24 year old student, when she was interviewed by the designer. "I do not like the thought that animals are killed for fashion products. I don't consider that a limitation of my freedom."
