'S-K-I-N' a new project by Sylvio Giardina

After having spotted several designers who showcased their latest Spring/Summer 2016 collections in Paris, MODEM selected a worth-seeing range of new brands for the magazine’s seasonal report. Despite their different aesthetics, the brands highlighted in this article all share a common commitment to high-end quality and innovation dedicated to either couture, ready-to-wear or accessories.

Sylvio Giardina
Sylvio Giardina is an Italian designer who launched his eponymous brand in 2011 with the ambition to redefine traditional womenswear. His shape and pattern studies resulted in new sculptural forms that make for appealing wearable art pieces. Giardina conceives art and fashion as two complementary entities. This ever-growing creative co-dependence is what inspires his seasonal collections.

Cecchi De Rossi
Tommaso Cecchi de' Rossi is a young Italian creative who designs hand-made bags and accessories that fuse innovative craftsmanship techniques with timeless designs. The designer uses the wine of his own Tuscan wine yards to dye his leather goods that come in unique red-purple hues, as well as in other subtle colorings that were obtained through various vegetable tanning processes. His limited edition pieces draw their inspiration from Italy’s charm and rich cultural history.


Lucio Vanotti, women's AW15/16 collection

Lucio Vanotti
Lucio Vanotti is an Istituto Marangoni graduate and up-and-coming Italian designer renowned for his sleek and minimalist aesthetics. After working in the fashion industry for almost a decade, he eventually established his eponymous brand in 2012. For the Spring 2016 season, he delivered a quintessentially chic collection that features sharp cuts with an androgynous appeal.

Bird on a Wire
Based in Beirut, Bird on a Wire is an independent ready-to-wear and jewelry brand that reinterprets women's and men's casual clothing and jewelry with a playful twist. Bird on a Wire aims to take fashion to a new level by pushing the boundaries of traditional craftsmanship. The brand debuted at Paris Fashion Week this season and showcased its collections at Showroom Romeo

palmer//harding
Launched in 2012 by Central Saint Martins trained Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding, palmer//harding is a designer brand offering innovative womenswear, as well as exquisitely crafted shirts that bridge the line between wardrobe essential and modern statement. Since launching, palmer//harding show seasonal collections on-schedule during London Fashion Week, and have been recognized and awarded by the industry, including by the British Fashion Council’s and Topshop’s NEWGEN sponsorship.


Tagliovivo, SS16 collection

Tagliovivo
Tagliovivo is the brainchild of Giordano Lapegna, an Italian designer who creates premium handmade bags and totes. Giordano Lapegna. Lapegna launched his brand in 2013 with the aim to design leather goods that are crafted from the finest materials available on the market. He follows each step of the production chain, from the fabric sourcing to the tanning and final detailing. This infuses his creations with an artisanal appeal, which perfectly expresses Lapegna’s ideal of raw beauty.

Fiorentini + Baker
Launched by British designer Deborah Baker in collaboration with Italian interior designer Paolo Fiorentini in 2003, Fiorentini & Baker is all about expressing true essence of luxury. The brand fuses British style influences with Italian shoemaking expertise and features boots and shoes with a charming vintage appeal. The entire collection is hand-crafted in Italy at the brand’s family-run atelier near Bologna. Premium materials and flawless details make each Fiorentini & Baker piece extremely unique.


Marimekko, SS16 collection

Marimekko
{Marimekko }is a Finnish design house founded in 1951 by Viljo and Armi Ratia, which is celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colors. Two designers in particular, Vuokko Nurmesniemi with bold stripes, and Maija Isola with large simple flowered prints, created hundreds of distinctive patterns and helped to make Marimekko a household name across the world. Recently, the fashion and lifestyle brand showcased its first collection designed by Anna Teurnell during the Spring/Summer 2016 runway shows in Paris. Over the past decades, Marimekko has been able to standout among the international fashion brands, by offering a high-end casual chic style that mixes strikingly inventive patterns and eye-popping colors. 

Florian Denicourt
French designer Florian Denicourt launched his first accessory collection in 2003. Specialized in leather goods and men’s bags, Denicourt blends minimalism with a radical rock-flavored style. His latest collection also features unisex footwear, that is crafted from high-quality materials and that comes with a futuristic twist.
