After having spotted several designers who showcased their latest Spring/Summer 2016 collections in Paris, MODEM selected a worth-seeing range of new brands for the magazine’s seasonal report. Despite their different aesthetics, the brands highlighted in this article all share a common commitment to high-end quality and innovation dedicated to either couture, ready-to-wear or accessories.

77th
Established in 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand, 77th is the brainchild of Phongmanas Sawaddichai and expresses his passion for art and fashion. The brand’s name refers to ancient Asian belief in which the number “7“ is connected to an unpredictable future filled with happiness and adventurous experiences. In this context, “77th” offers surreal and mysterious jewelry pieces that come with a vintage twist.

Kansai Yamamoto
Kansai Yamamoto is a well-established and respected Japanese fashion designer who started his eponymous brand in 1971, with a debut collection in London, followed by another milestone in Paris, in 1975, and by the opening of his Kansai boutique in 1977. Kansai Yamamoto has made a name for himself for reinventing the tradition kimono cut with his avant-garde kimono designs — designs that were worn by David Bowie during his iconic Ziggy Stardust Tour. Since 2001, he has been known for his fashion eyewear, sold by Aoyama USA. He recently showcased his Spring/Summer 2016 collection at Showroom PLC in Paris during Fashion Week.

Milo’
Milo’ is the brainchild of Spanish designer Mireia Lopez. The brand was founded in New York in 2009, and introduced as a collection of modern knitwear for girls and women. Following its immediate success, Lopez decided to re-launch the brand, this time focusing on women only. The inaugural collection for Fall/Winter 2013, and every collection since, has been reflecting the notion of creating unconventional knit staples. In this sense, Mireia Lopez has been offering both high-end, quality craftsmanship and innovative design, by focusing on a mix of minimal, yet intricate and innovative techniques. Milo’’s Spring/Summer 2016 was recently showcased both in Paris and New York, during the latest editions of Tranoï.

Drycleanonly
Drycleanonly is a Bangkok-based fashion brands, which celebrates both sustainable fashion design and vintage collectible T-shirts. ‘At Dry Clean Only, each shirt is custom made and created to be a one-of-a-kind piece,’ explains Patipat Chaipukdee, the brand’s founder and designer, in an official release, who started making arty fashion out of vintage Adidas tees. ‘We are different from other brand because each product is unique and hand-made.’ Drycleanonly’s collections make an impression with carefully hand-knitted pieces that are adorned with desirable details, such as maribou feathers, beads, studs, safety pins and jewels. therefore achieves to recycle mass-market products into one-of-a-kind handcrafted apparel.

Amanda Wakeley
Amanda Wakeley is a London-based luxury lifestyle brand that launched in 1990 by Amanda Wakeley, founder and creative director of the brand. The collection founded on teh designer’s signature style includes ready-to-wear, handbags and leather goods, jewelry and scarves with a classic yet sport-luxe flavored appeal. Raised in England, Amanda worked in New York before returning to London to launch her eponymous brand with the opening of a studio and boutique in the heart of Chelsea, London. Soon the entirely self-taught designer was a favorite of the world’s most stylish women and was appointed Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2010, by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales for her services to the British fashion industry and role as the funding co-chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.

Maydi
Maydi is a womenswear and accessories brand of hand-knit pieces constructed from natural fibers and organic yarns founded by the Argentinian designer Maria A. Zolezzi, who studied Advertising in Buenos Aires and obtained a Fashion Design degree at the London College of Fashion. Merging contemporary aesthetics with a focus on sustainability and human capital, Maydi’s timeless garments make an impression with their artisanal appeal and unwavering attention to detail. All designs are hand-made, developed and produced in collaboration with local artisans from across Argentina. In addition to the organic merino wool, which is the base of each Maydi collection piece, the designer uses further natural and organic yarns, such as goat mohair, cotton and raw silk.

Milly
Milly is the brainchild of designer Michelle Smith, an American fashion designer and fashion illustrator, who plays with classic silhouettes by merging American sportswear influences with distinctive Parisian atelier techniques. Smith's eye for impeccable detail, use of luxurious, cutting-edge fabrics and precise tailoring have made Milly a cult favorite across the globe. Milly has successfully expanded into categories beyond ready-to-wear, including handbags, small leather goods and swimwear (Milly Cabana), and for budding fashion lovers, the MILLY Minis childrenswear collection, largely inspired by Michelle Smith's daughter, Sophia. Michelle Smith recently showcased her Spring/Summer 2016 collection during New York Fashion Week and in her own showrooms in Paris and Milan.

Aleksander Siradekian
Aleksander Siradekian is a Russian fashion designer, founder and creative director of his eponymous brand dedicated to luxury shoes for women. The designer strives to emphasize the beautiful, feminine shape of the foot by adorning it with gracious lines and luxurious fabrics and materials, while always keeping comfort and quality in mind. As of today, Aleksander Siradekian is sold in selected luxury boutiques and concept stores around the world, such as LuisaViaRoma, Level Shoe Distric, More Is Love, and Tribeca, among many others. The designer recently showcased his Spring/Summer fashion week at his showroom (Hôtel Claridge Paris) during Paris Fashion Week.
