The French artist Camille Henrot is the recipient of this year’s Edvard Munch Art Award, an international prize for a contemporary visual artist. Henrot is a New York-based artist in the process of developing her artistic project and career, and she is experiencing a growing international attention to her art, especially since her participation to the 2013 edition of the Venice Biennale. The artist is represented by Kamel Mennour.

"Through a number of projects and exhibitions of high quality and diversity Camille Henrot has within the five last years proven herself as an exceptionally talented and original artist," explained the Jury in an official statement. "The jury finds Henrot’s artistic practice particularly significant, in the sense that she sheds light on fundamental epistemological questions of our time where knowledge is continuously diffused, reproduced and diversified through an impenetrable web of information and communication."

Every year, the Award is given to an emerging visual artist, no older than 40 years of age, who has demonstrated exceptional talent within the last five years. The award includes a monetary prize (NOK 500 000) and a solo exhibition at the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway. The Edvard Munch Art Award is an acknowledgement of Edvard Munch’s historical significance and enduring relevance to contemporary culture. The Award contributes to promote the development of outstanding international talents in the field visual arts.
