ITALY / Venice: The 57th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition - ‘Viva Arte Viva’ by Christine Macel

The 57th International Art exhibition this year titled Viva Arte Viva, which is among the most important and prestigious international exhibitions of contemporary art in the world. Open to the public from 13 May to Sunday, 26 November 2017, at Giardini and the Arsenale in the city center of Venice. The exhibition will include 87 National Participants in the historic Pavilions.

The exhibition offers a route over a course of nine chapters, beginning in the Central Pavilion, followed by seven across the Arsenale through the Giardino delle Vergini. These nine episodes each represent a Pavillion and tell a story. 120 are the invited artists from 51 different countries; 103 of these are participating for the first time. Some are discoveries; many others, at least for this year’s edition, are rediscovered.

Viva Arte Viva will be Curated by - Christine Macel who is the chief curator at the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou in Paris. Christine Marcel has called it an exhibition inspired by humanism, this type of humanism the artistic act is an act of resistance and liberation. Further explaining the theme this year Viva Arte Viva as an exclamation, a passionate outcry for art and the state of the artist. Viva Arte Viva is a biennial designed by artists for the artists Christine Marcel explains.

Further, organized by La Biennale di Venezia. Paolo Baratta, President of la Biennale di Venezia, presents the Biennial Art 2017 theme explaining that the 57th international art exhibition theme this year has now become –encounter and dialogue.

A series of other events, Every Friday and Saturday of every week, artists will host an Open Table (Tavola Aperta) and meet visitors while conversing about their practices over a casual lunch.

Also, the Artists Practices Project, starting from February 7th, a permanent space in the venues exhibiting a series of short videos made by the artists about themselves and their way of working.

The project titled Unpacking My Library, a source of inspiration for the public; this project allows the artists of Viva Arte Viva to compile a list of their favorite books. The list of books will be published in the catalog, and at the Central Pavilion where the exhibition will be held.

Educational activities will be offered again for the year 2017, The Biennale Sessions project, offering favorable conditions for students and teachers
Initiatives aim to actively involve participants in both Guided Tours and Creative Workshops.

La Biennale di Venezia confirms the collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum of London for the Special Project Applied Arts Pavilion. Organized by the Cuban artist and sculptor Jorge Pardo, he is known for combining art and design together. Additionally, a Special Project with Teatro La Fenice that is dedicated this year to the opera Cefalo e Procri. The project will be staged at Teatro Malibran in Venice from September 29th to October 7th, 2017 Christine Macel, curator of the 2017 Biennale Art exhibition handed over the task to French artist Philippe Parreno. Further, The Enterprise continues the collaboration between La Biennale and La Fenice, started in 2013 with the Madama Butterfly, Japenese artist Mariko Mori designed the sets and costumes under direction from former artistic director of the Biennale Teatro, Àlex Rigola.

Roman label Fendi continues supporting the art world. The fashion house LVMH will sponsor the Italian Pavilion and the exhibition entitled “Il Mondo Magico”(The Magical World) created by three artists Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Roberto Cuoghi and Adelita Husni-Bey the event is organized by Cecilia Alemani.

Also, on the occasion alongside the 57th edition of the Venice Biennale an artistic project between contemporary art, poetry, culinary art and haute couture. The Link of the Worlds an exhibition by French artist Claudine Drai in collaboration with Fashion designer Hubert Barrère, writer Olivier Kaeppelin and star chef Guy Martin owner of the restaurant Le Grand Vefour. The project is on from 10 May to 27 September 2017, Claudine Drai and her companions invite you to see, taste and read at the Magazzino Gallery at the Contarini-Polignac Palace in Venice.

The 57th international art exhibition, Viva Arte Viva this year presents itself as an open dialogue between artists, and between artists and the public.

Finally, Swatch has committed to being a main partner of the Biennale Art 2017, Swatch Creative Director Carlo Giordanetti comments, "Art is an inspiration, a source of oxygen, a wonderful way to open one's mind.
