ARTISSIMA 2017, Turin's International Fair of Contemporary Art, opens its 24th edition to the public from November 3rd to 5th. Directed by Ilaria Bonacossa for the first time, the fair features 206 galleries from 31 countries.

Artissima will feature seven major sections:
The Main Section, which is dedicated to established contemporary art galleries; Dialogue focuses on specific projects in which the works of one, two or three artists are shown in close relation to each other; the New Entries, devoted to galleries that have been open for less than five years and are at the fair in Turin for the first time; Art Editions, which is dedicated to galleries specialized in editions and artist’s multiples; Present Future, a section curated by Cloé Perrone, Samuel Gross, João Laia, Charlotte Laubard, which is dedicated to 20 emerging artists presented by the galleries that represent them, along a specially designed itinerary; Back to the Future, a presentation of solo-exhibitions of contemporary art pioneers focused on the 1980–89 decade; and the Disegni new section devoted to the expressive medium of drawing.

For its 24th edition, Artissima presents two special project:
The first project, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa and Vittoria Martini, is Deposito d’Arte Italiana Presente that includes works by 128 Italian artists dating from 1994 – the year of the founding of Artissima – to the present, in a temporary warehouse. The project is based on a survey of the history of Artissima, re-examined like a huge archive for a retrospective study – from an unprecedented vantage point – of the Italian art system and its market.

The second project is a programme of talks titles PIPER. Learning at the discotheque coordinated by “the classroom,” a centre of art and education directed by Paola Nicolin to reinvent the relations between practices of exhibition and pedagogy.

In addition, During Artissima 2017 international juries will award seven prizes to participating artists and galleries. The first edition of the Campari Art Prize will be assigned to an artist under 35 selected from those featured in the various sections of the Fair, who focus in their research on the evocative power of storytelling in all its interpretations, and on the communicative dimension of the work. The Refresh Irinox Prize, for the new section Disegni, will be assigned to the artist whose work stands out for its ability to “reinvent while conserving”. The OGR Award is a new prize of Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT leading to the acquisition of a work as part of the foundation’s collection, for the new OGR – Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Torino. The CARIOCA KIDS Prize for the New Entries section of the fair. The illy Present Future Prize assigned to the artist whose research is seen as the most innovative by an international jury. The Sardi per l’Arte Back to the Future Prize honours the gallery with the most interesting project in terms of historical importance and presentation. And the Fondazione Ettore Fico Prize has been organised to encourage and promote one young artist.
