January 1988, these 6 girls playing-posing on Santa Monica Beach are still unknown... By the end of that same year, they will be the most famous models on the planet.

This cliché is a revolution, so natural you wouldn't think it was fashion photography. At the time, the shock came mainly from the simplicity of their styling and unadorned look. It will take several months before the shot is finally published. Grace Mirabella, Editor-in-chief of the American Vogue, refused to publish it. She will be fired and the photo sold to Vogue UK. With this untouched shot, Linda Evangelista, Karen Alexander, Christy Turlington, Estelle Lefébure, Tatjana Patitz and Rachel Williams become worldwide famous models... And Peter Lindbergh's career as a fashion portrait photographer explodes.

Tuesday 3rd of September 2019, Peter Lindbergh passed away at age 74.

German, Peter Lindbergh, born in November 1944 in Leszno, Poland, became famous by collaborating with many magazines (Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harper's Bazaar...), participating in a large number of advertising campaigns and the famous Pirelli calendar.

His very last shooting was for the September issue of Vogue UK, with the Duchess of Sussex as editor-in-chief. An issue for which he immortalized a series of strong women, from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

In 2014 he said that ‘"This should be the responsibility of photographers today to free women, and finally everyone, from the terror of youth and perfection"
