This exhibition results from the collection of tattooed human skin, from 1910‐30, owned by the Forensic Medicine Institute (IML, in Portuguese). The goal of this presentation is to approach three perspectives: scientific/forensic, philosophical, and artistic.

Unlike similar collections from other countries, extensive documentation consolidates the IML collection, and will be included in the exhibition (drawings and social‐cultural portrayal of each one of the individuals). This presentation recalls the environments from the typical quarters of Lisbon on the threshold of the twentieth century where delinquency, prostitution, and fado were interconnected, and thus contributes to deepening the knowledge of the town. Moreover, it questions the potential characteristics of the Portuguese tattoo design.
