"RETROSPECTIVE 1992-2012" Space-consuming film installations and photographic works are the focal point of the first German retrospective on the oeuvre of the British artist Gillian Wearing (*1963 in Birmingham).

She studied at London’s renowned Goldsmiths College and has gained international recognition since the early 1990s. In 1997, Gillian Wearing was awarded the renowned Turner Prize for her video installation »60 Minutes Silence«.

The artist turns her attention to the personal expression people assume in staged situations. She is especially interested in the attitudes of the man-on-thestreet, as well as of those on the fringes of society and of children. In her cautious examination of people, she creates touching portraits in which the relationship between selfperception and the perceived image, between the artist and those portrayed emerges as the real subject.

In addition, Wearing’s works induce a reflection on social conventions and on the most varied forms of communication.
