Germaine Krull (Wilda-Poznań, Poland 1897 - Wetzlar, Germany 1985) is one of the best-known photographers in the history of photography and also one of the most famous women photographers of all time. She is considered a pioneer in terms of the ‘photographic book’ and her work is present in every study on 20th century female nudes. She was also one of the pioneers of photojournalism.

The exhibition aims to show the equilibrium the photographer maintained between her undeniably avant-garde artistic vision and an active role in the media and illustration. It brings together more than 150 vintage prints from the period between 1924 and 1945 and published photos, without a systematic comparison between the two. The very structure of her books and the way the images were laid out was part of her deliberately innovative approach. Many unique images that are representative of her work still remain to be discovered, whether as photographic prints or in published form. This presentation will allow visitors to the exhibition to appreciate the continuity and the constants in Germaine Krull’s work, whilst highlighting her aesthetic innovations.
