Joana Vasconcelos is an artist who handles humor and fantasy as much as she develops a work with a political content deeply rooted in today's society.

The question of domesticity is at the heart of this project which borrows its title from the pop rock world of the Queen group and offers everyone to walk in this interior that solicits all senses: the works are presented to the eye, some can be affected when others play music or exhale a pungent smell.

Arranged in the manner of an apartment with cornices, carpets and corridors, the MAMCS showroom is transformed, the time of the exhibition "I Want to Break Free", remains an extravagant where the objects are given powers extraordinary.

This "home sweet home" offers a journey that includes both "iconic" works by the Portuguese artist (Cinderella, Coeur Indépendant), marked by the glamorous aesthetics that made him famous, as well as much more tense pieces ( Menu of the day, Esposas) attesting a constant reinvention capacity.

All have in common to offer visitors the opportunity to look at the everyday differently and, in doing so, to transcend it, as each of us plunges into an alternative world, whether disturbing, playful or enchanted.

Joana Vasconcelos is out of the ordinary - the everyday object, whether it's a washbasin, a plastic fork or a clothes rack - to draw us into a whimsical story that leave no room for blandness. With Joana Vasconcelos, the showers are changed into baroque embroidered baroque trimmings, while the dressing of Mr. comes alive with fans or a cluster of hair looks like a fantastic creature, jellyfish to Curlers or Chewbacca at the beautician.
