On July 20th, the Brooklyn Museums presents the retrospective Pierre Cardin: Future Fashion dedicated to the 70 years of career and achievements of designer Pierre Carden. The fashion designer revolutionized the traditional view on male and female fashion, introduced the customers to pret-à-porter, and started to sell his creations by the affordable prices. Since the creation of his fashion house in 1950, he always aimed to bypass his colleagues. The first exhibition in New York for the last 40 years, Pierre Carden, who recently turned 97 years, was involved in the creation of the exhibition himself.
The exhibition consists of 19 sections, objects on display (over 170) are mostly from the archives of the fashion house, including haute couture, pret-a-porter, accessories, furniture, lighting, fashion sketches, personal photographs, and excerpts from television, documentaries, and feature films. The objects are displayed in an immersive environment inspired by Cardin’s unique atelier designs, showrooms, and homes.
