Shanghai Flower: Abstract Art by Li Lei, which is hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) Shanghai and the Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (APECF), was opened to the public on September 20th, 2014. This is the first stop of {{Li Lei's debut international tour as an eminent abstract artist. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Melissa Chiu, Museum Director and Curator for Contemporary Asian and Asian-American art at the Asia Society, who wishes to further promote the contemporary art and culture of China in a wonderfully new world outside.

The artist Li Lei is primarily a creator and researcher of Chinese abstract art.
At Shanghai Flower: Abstract Art by Li Lei, the artist has converted the exhibition itself to an installation, so that every viewer will find him- or herself immersed in the ambience of art as soon as he or she enters the exhibition hall. By means of paintings, installations, and videos, the metamorphosis of abstract elements is represented, pointing to the passion, uproar, hesitation, decay, and meditation of the life in the city. With the twenty-four transparent works of abstract art that are capable of being revolved by the viewers, the nature of the "Shanghai Flower," an entanglement of being gorgeous and perplexing at once, is shown dynamically. Within the labyrinth of stripes of colors, a poem-like context has arisen all of a sudden on the canvas. Meanwhile, in the space of the MoCA Shanghai, a visual rhythm has been constructed, resembling a symphony.
