ABSENCE OF PERMANENT I

Using video, drawings, sculptures and photographs, young artist Gauthier Oushoorn exhibits and puts into context the outcome of his residence in Istanbul and eastern Turkey. Drawing inspiration from the esoteric Sufi principle of unity in multiplicity, he has produced artistic and architectural interventions enlighting various components of religious architecture in Islamic lands.

Gauthier Oushoorn (1986) has a profound interest in the definition of space. Architecture is his recurring frame of reference while his trained craftsmanship acts both as a utility and obstruction. Through sculptural work he explores the elements to create space, which he simultaneously uses as the functional tools for its realisation. The consequences of primary choices he makes while conceiving the works are accepted and displayed as their essential parts.
