The Kunstpalast will be presenting the first major exhibition in Germany dedicated to the internationally renowned fashion designer. Showing more than 80 styles the exhibition offers an insight into Cardin’s creative world: The show focuses on the 1960s and 1970s, the period in which Cardin revolutionised the fashion scene with avant-garde designs for women and men.
His geometric vocabulary has remained instantly recognisable to this day. Cardin made a name for himself in the world of fashion with his provocative, futurist collections, which were strikingly form-fitting and youthful. Using new materials such as plastic and vinyl, his fashion designs with their bold colours and trendy cuts stand for a new, more liberal outlook on life. The broad range of haute couture exhibits encompasses androgynous looks, futurist Space Age fashion through to dreamily elegant eveningwear.

To this day, Pierre Cardin is the sole owner of his enterprise founded in Paris in 1950. Alongside his fashion label Pierre Cardin, he developed an increasingly broad product range in the 1970s. When looking at the broad spectrum of his enterprises, it becomes clearly evident that, alongside creating sophisticated designs, he has also invariably been governed by the idea of turning these into popular fashion.
