Michael Snow (b. 1929, Toronto) has been a key figure in experimental film and video installation for more than five decades. Also a painter, sculptor, and musician, his work is found in public and private collections around the world and documents a unique journey of investigation into perception and the artistic mediums of our time. As Snow himself has explained, "My paintings are done by a filmmaker, sculpture by a musician, films by a painter [...] sometimes they all work together." With an attitude of skepticism and wonder towards systems of visual representation of the world, Snow has experimented with multiple procedures for filming, editing, and projecting images. Closed Circuit will offer, exclusively at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, a montage of works from different periods where video is presented as an autonomous sensory channel with hardly a trace of human intention.
