MODEM Men Fall winter 2019

EDITION DEDICATED TO JEAN PAUL GAULTIER FASHION FREAK SHOW For this edition, which is dedicated to the Men’s Fall/Winter 2019-20 season, Modem is giving “carte blanche” to the Jean Paul Gaultier Fashion Freak Show . Featuring a teddy bear and the icons of the silver screen; the fashion police and nights at the Palace; dance-offs between sapeurs and voguers, music, lights and, of course, dozens of legendary looks, the Fashion Freak Show goes further than merely recounting the 1001 lives of fashion’s eternal enfant terrible, Jean Paul Gaultier. The couturier’s designs, his obsessions, the people he met, the challenges he overcame, his partners in crime and many friends all come together on the stage of the Folies Bergère , as the most French of Paris couturiers brings to life the childhood dream from which his legend was born : to delight through generosity. How did the idea for the show come about? Jean Paul Gaultier : “ The idea of a revue show that mixed cabaret, fashion and more has developed naturally over the years. I have always loved performance and the very special atmosphere of the stage. I probably wouldn’t have gone into fashion if there weren’t any catwalk shows ” . You have always enjoyed the stage ... Jean Paul Gaultier : “ I love it. The runway has been my stage for years. My first memory would have to be an operette at the théâtre du Châtelet, Rose de Noël (directed by Maurice Lehman in 1958), that I watched on TV with my grandmother when I was a little boy. Then I saw an extract from the Folies Bergère on TV, and I imagined that my teddy bear Nana was the leading lady of a revue. I love the stars of that whole scene – I was lucky enough to see Zizi Jeanmaire as a bird of paradise by Yves Saint Laurent when I was starting out, and Josephine Baker in her last show at the Bobino, a week before she died ” .
