EDITORIAL The American artist Robert Longo gives this Modem New York – Los Angeles collections - Fall / Winter 2012/2013 cover his stamp. Born in Brooklyn neighbourhood in New York in 1953, after attending the Fine Arts Academy in Florence, in the seventies Robert Longo comes back to the United States enrolling at Buffalo State College, obtaining the Fine Arts diploma at the end of his studies. The versatile artist collects his first successes in the early ‘80s with the “ Men in the Cities ” series, big drawings on white setting representing men and women in twisted positions. In 1995 his passion for movies led him to direct Johnny Mnemonic , a Cyberpunk film, which make actor Keanu Reeves come into the limelight. From 1999 Robert Longo dedicates himeself to new series of works. He draws atomic explosions, huge waves, planets and white sharks... massive works in which the extreme violence blends in a gentle feeling of lightness. With these works, the artist aims to materialize the “immensity of the intimate” feeling. Robert Longo works are in the most prestigious international museums collections including: the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Albertina in Vienna, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne ...
