MODEM PARIS WOMEN'S Spring Summer 2013
“ Hats! Like passion, like irresistible frivolity, like accents, like catalysts of proportion, like cheerful signs of ‘grandeur’(but never primacy…), like declarations and forecasts, like androgynousness, like folklore and irony ”, wrote Anna Piaggi in the opening editorial of the edition, showing in just a few lines her sense of humour, culture and love for fashion. Using different kinds of paper, Stephen Jones created 11 pieces starting from the characteristic “veil” of the first years of the twentieth century, to Poiret, Lanvin, Coco Chanel, Schiaparelli, Dior, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, until Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano and Miu Miu. “ As virtual top-hats, seemingly abstract, but real hats ", as Anna defined them. Bardo Fabiani shoot the images of the 11 pieces on Stephen Jones private collection of busts. This experience resulted not only in 11 Modem dividers, but an exhibition with the original pieces at the library of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, followed by a hat history conference in the main Museum gallery. Students from various Parisian fashion schools gathered around Anna Piaggi and Stephen Jones for the event. Partners for the event were: the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Atelier Chardon Savard, the Ecole de la Chambre syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, ESMOD Paris, LISAA, Studio Berçot and the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré. The eleven original images reproduced in the February edition of Modem Milano and the March edition of Modem Paris 2001, are permanently exposed at Espace Modem in Paris. We dedicate this edition to Anna Piaggi . Ezio Barbaro & l’Equipe di Modem
