AALTO is a Finnish designer brand, created in Paris by Tuomas Merikoski. AALTO has a new approach to the feminine wardrobe playing with masculine details, proportions, comfort and elegance with a strong fashion aesthetic. AALTO’s inspiration comes from exploring the diversity of the modern Finnish culture by reinterpreting its traditional DNA, and its blend of harmonious contrasts. AALTO connects fashion, design and art, by actively collaborating with leading Scandinavian artists.
First season – Fall-Winter 2015 – “Young Heroes”
In its first season collection AALTO has the opportunity to work in collaboration with Jouko Lehtola Foundation. The Finnish photographer Jouko Lehtola (1963-2010) depicted the energy of being young and untouched by the conformity of society. The design is inspired by the extremes of this Finnish youth, and the designer’s Finnish roots. “I try to capture innocence and rage. Anyone who has been a teenager knows it ain’t fun. It’s not a very nice situation…” (Jouko Lehtola) The photos treat the subjects with a loving eye and show their bravery of dealing with existence in modern life. A special capsule of the first season collection will integrate the artist’s original works in the garments. A photobook of Jouko’s images will be published by AALTO as a tribute to his strongly influential life work.
Collection characteristics AALTO will present complete outfits for women, including shoes. All raw materials used in AALTO garments are sourced from Europe. The manufacturing process is done in responsible high-end facilities in Portugal for the main part.
