Igor Chapurin, 39, started his fashion career at a very tender age. His grand father was the one to open first Russian linen manufactories, his father was reorganising sewing enterprises and his mother was directing a caps factory.
In 1992 Igor takes part in a competition of young fashion designers in Paris, France, which he wins. In 1993 he created the dresses for the Miss Europe, Miss World and Miss Universe contests.
CHAPURIN showed his first «To Russia with Love» collection in 1995, in the Red Hall of Metropol Hotel, Moscow, Russia.
During 1996-1998 Chapurin is invited by the Dutchess Irene GALITZINE, to work over the first line of the GALITZINE House in Milan. Being official member of the Russian Haute Couture Association – CHAPURIN wins twice in 1999 and 2003 the ultimate prize of the Association – the Golden mannequin.
In 1998 Igor gets the Style prize, from Harper’s Bazaar Russia. His models are representing Russia the same year in France, at the “Bal de Paris”.
Since then, Igor Chapurin becomes a Brand CHAPURIN Fashion House is born. A first CHAPURIN boutique opens in Moscow.
In 1999 and 2000 – two shows were simultaneously broadcasted both by German and Swedish television channels. The list of prizes is added by the Russian National award – the “Ovation”. Same year begins the love story between Igor and the Theater. He designs costumes for the famous play “The Woe from Being Shrewd”, directed by Oleg MENSHIKOV, a big Russian actor and director.
In 2000 Igor makes his first jewelry sets – in cooperation with Vassily KONOVALENKO Art. This experience develops further and is being now transformed into the first commercial jewelry line in collaboration with the Russian Smolensk Diamonds Group.
In 2001 – the theatrical story goes on – with three new plays: “The Kitchen”, by Oleg MENSHIKOV, “The Little Prince” and the “Farewell Marlene, Hello!”.
In 2003 CHAPURINCASA, a furniture and home accessories line is born. It was presented for the first time at the International Furniture Salon in Milan, Italy. The production is provided by Pitti Group, Florence, Italy.
On May 7, 2003 in the Royal Albert Hall, London, United Kingdom, the first night of «Madame Leoneli» ballet takes place. All costumes and decorations are designed by Igor CHAPURIN.
For the Olympics 2004, Athens, Greece, CHAPURIN creates the outfits for Alina KABAEVA and Irina TCHASTCHINA – world champions in artistic gymnastics.
In July 2004, the new cafe VESNA, is opened on New Arbat street, Moscow, Russia – the brand new project by a famous Russian restaurateur and entrepreneur Arkady NOVIKOV. All interior and lighting designs are created by Igor, and inspired by the CHAPURINCASA collection.
On April 14, 2005 – on the Bolshoi Theater’s main stage – opens «Les Presages» ballet. A reprise from a 30’s mise-en-scene, by the famous Leonide MYASSINE. All the production is created by CHAPURIN.
In September 2005 - Igor CHAPURIN is awarded by GQ Russia «Man of the year» prize, as Best Designer of the Year. Same month - the new CHAPURIN flagship store opens on the Savvinskaya embankment in Moscow, along with all the offices, ateliers and show rooms.
On October 2, 2005 - first Paris pret-a-porter show takes place. CHAPURIN shows the Spring-Summer 2006 collection. The show is widely covered by the Russian and International press and warmly received by fashion professionals. In November 2005 - a new premiere in Bolshoi is shown. This time – Go for Broke, dedicated to Maya PLISETSKAYA, in occasion of her 80’s anniversary, music by Igor STRAVINSKY. Igor CHAPURIN – designed the whole set, with light, costumes and decorations.
July 2007 in Moscow and August 2007 in London another ballet staged by Bolshoi with Chapurin’s costumes and décor set follows – “Class-concert” by the legendary Asaf Messerer. The piece was delightedly received by both Moscow and London public.
In December 2005 - Chapurin launches his new line for Ski Wear, CHAPURINRG.
In October 2006 Igor Chapurin as a first-ever Russian fashion designer creates a front look for Wimm-Bill-Dann’s factories. On October 6, 2007 – CHAPURIN’s fifth Parisian show takes place, with the Summer-Spring 2008 “Russian Dreams” collection.
Only several weeks later, on October 29, 2007 the same show is replicated in Moscow for the Russian press and clients, closing the Moscow Fashion Week. Now Igor Chapurin is preparing to his 9th show in Paris.
