FUMIO AKIYAMA has started his career as a fashion designer after entering ISSEY MIYAKE.,CO.LTD in 1979 as soon as he graduated from SETSU MODE SEMINAR in Tokyo.

After working for ISSEY MIYAKE as a designer nearly 20 years, he became independent in 1996.
He founded A.WORK STUDIO.,LTD in 1997. Since then he has made a contract with one of the largest apparel makers in Japan, SANYO SHOKAI CO.,LTD to offer his design know-how. He has worked as a chief designer at the lady’s coat division for 9 years.
He launched his own brand “FUMIO” in 2003, and FUMIO made its debut at the Tokyo collection/2004 SS. He was nominated to New designer’s award of MAINICHI
Newspaper’ Fashion award at its second season,04/05AW.
FUMIO was first showcased its collection at COTERIE in NY in 2004, and joined a showroom in NY.
Since October in 2006, it has showcased its collection at ATMOSPHERE in Paris.
FUMIO’s high creativity has got high reputation and been admired by many journalists and buyers since the first presentation. Last October, even though it was its third time at ATMOSPHERE, FUMIO was allowed to move its booth to SAINT JAMES HOTEL.

FUMIO is now sold to some of the most exclusive retail stores overseas such as in France, Italy, Russia, U.K.,Taiwan…….as well as some department stores in Tokyo.
