Biography
Born in 1955 in Oran, Algeria. Youth in Aix-en-Provence / Moved to Paris in 1975 where he enrolled in courses offered by the Paris Fashion Chamber of Commerce / 1977: assistant at the Pierre Balmain Haute Couture studio / 1980: creation of Comptoir du Kit with Christian Astuguevieille / Design of accessories for the fashion shows of Jean-Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler, Chloé, etc. / 1987: creation of the “JEANCOLONNA” label / Summer of 1990, with David Sims, series of portraits for the Dépêche Mode magazine (Feb. 1993) / March 1993: the Le Printemps department store gives him carte blanche for its Fashion special: design of store windows, catalogue, newsletter, films clips, overall design and artistic direction: Juergen Teller, David Sims, Benny Valson, etc. / Winter '93-'94: season's guest designer for the La Redoute mail-order catalogue: photos by Stéphane Sednaoui / Winter '94-'95 and Summer '95: lingerie and underwear collections for La Redoute: photos by Juergen Teller and Nicolas Hidiroglou / December '95: Glen Luchford produces his first calendar / December '97: directs a video for the Expofil trade show on the topic of women's progress and liberation in the twentieth century /
2000: collaborations with Nan Goldin, Tracey Moffat, Kyoichi Tsuzuki and Paul Che Ritter / 2001: designs and presents a line of clothing made entirely from recycled fibres for Expofil / 2001: guest at the Festival International Mode et Photos at Hyères: installation with Jeff Burton / October 2001: Paris Première: JEANCOLONNA 52’ Fashion Special / 2002: design of Summer '03 footwear line for Eram / May 2003: Hyères Festival: “Le Look-Book” exhibition-happening jointly with MUDAM (Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean - Luxembourg) / 2004: designs Alain Bashung's stage-wear for his Les Grands Espaces tour (joint project with Dominique Forster) / 2004: “13X Le Trench” capsule collection for Ramosport – Winter '05/'06 / 2005: artistic collaboration on the Bettina Rheims “Heroines” (March 2006 exhibition at the Jérome de Noirmont gallery on Avenue Matignon in Paris) / 2005-2007: artistic direction of Ramosport / 2007 to date: artistic direction and design of the Denis Colomb “Lifestyle” collection (research and development of high-end cashmere fabrics from Mongolia and Italy) / 2008: artistic direction for the Morgan winter '08-'09 collection and design of two JeanColonna-Morgan capsule collections / Since 2009 : creation and development of JEANCOLONNA Silk and Cashmere collection (men and women) : www.jeancolonna.com
