Léonie and Marius were born in Geneva, Switzerland. They met in the workshops of the Haute École d’Art et de Design in Geneva and moved to Paris in 2006 when they joined the Nina Ricci fashion house. Beginning as interns in the Studio, they very quickly moved up in the team to important posts, and ended up becoming the two first creative assistants to Olivier Theyskens, artistic director at the time.
For almost two years Léonie and Marius, always working as a team of two, assisted Olivier Theyskens throughout the process of creating collections, from the first sketches to the final acclaimed creations. In addition to their work as assistants, Léonie and Marius designed all of the collections of prints, jacquards and embroidery.
When Olivier Theyskens left Nina Ricci in 2009, the pair seized the opportunity to strike out on their own and create their own brand. Full of passion, creativity and talent and bolstered, in particular, by their complementarity and rock-solid professional experience, Léonie and Marius decided to take up a new challenge by developing their own collections of luxury Prêt-à-porter for women.
Still living and working in Paris, the presented, under the name of MAL-AIMÉE, their first collection in October 2011 at the Hotel de Crillon during Paris Fashion Week.
MAL-AIMÉE is a definite world of contrasts, modern and sophisticated, born of the differences and of the complementarity of its two creators. Enriched by their experience in the Paris fashion world and having mastered the art of dressmaking, the pair push the envelope in exploring line and volume, and are especially demanding in their choice of material and colours, as they develop their exclusive prints, jacquards and embroideries and their own mesh.
MAL-AIMÉE is equally a continuation of a very Parisian tradition and the creation of a dynamic avant-garde. It is poetic and romantic, as well as edgy and urban. The style of the brand switches back and forth between androgyny and extreme femininity, thereby giving birth to
a new elegance.
