Michelle Mason began her foray into fine arts, then fashion, at Cal State University Long Beach. In the early nineties, she was offered a design assistant position by a chance meeting with Australian American fashion designer Richard Tyler. This is where she honed her experience as a designer, and learned many skills pertaining to classic tailoring and fit. She then traveled to the UK during the British Fashion boom of the mid nineties, where she worked as a fashion model and surveyed the behind the scenes arena of European fashion for two years. Deeply inspired and influenced by the European sensibility of fashion and the amount of talent she had witnessed firsthand, she returned to Los Angeles and began a small shoe collection. Immediately the collection retailed exclusively at Barneys New York. An eponymous RTW collection soon followed with equal success.
The Michelle Mason collection focuses on a tailored, sharp fit, with a clean and modern sensual aesthetic. The classic shapes with novel details enable the wearer to make the easy transition from day-to evening. The target audience for the collection is a woman with a strong sense of individuality and forward thinking, that does not neglect her femininity.
