Mireia Lopez is originally from Barcelona and has been a proud New Yorker since 1994. Being a designer came naturally to her, having grown up in her family’s manufacturing business where, from an early age, she learned how to cut fabric and operate overlock machines. After graduating from F.E.L.I in Barcelona with a degree in Arts and Techniques of Fashion, Mireia started working for Mango at a very exciting time in fashion, with the emergence and impact of the ‘Antwerp Six’ during the late 80’s and early ‘90’s. Notwithstanding the city of Barcelona’s undeniable cultural impact, with its dreamlike surrealism and architecture, Mireia’s aesthetics and sense of visual expression are heavily influenced by the fashion culture of those early times and the photographers and models with whom she collaborated such as Corinne Day, Emma Balfour and Christy Turlington. Mireia has spent the last twenty years working for some of the fashion industry’s leading brands in Europe and in the United States. Founded in New York in 2009, Milo’ was introduced as a collection of modern knitwear for girls and women. Following its immediate success, its founder and creative director Mireia Lopez decided to re-launch the brand, this time focusing on women and continuing the same principles of beautifully crafted knitwear. The inaugural collection for Fall Winter 2013, and every collection since, reflects the notion of creating unconventional knit staples that transitions seamlessly across seasons. Form, shape and texture are our main focus, playing with architectural and geometric patterns, to create deconstructed silhouettes or textures that will effortlessly drape our bodies. Milo’s design language is an ever-evolving creative process with a mix of minimal, yet intricate and innovative techniques. We believe in craftsmanship and innovation, using hand made techniques, as well as the latest high technology production methods. With an environmental eco-friendly mindset, we engage in responsible practices that minimize our environmental impact, undertaking ethical production methods wherever possible, in all phases of our production and operation, from sourcing raw materials to working with like-minded office suppliers and printers.
We aim to continue creating our signature ‘new knitwear essentials’: pieces that are equally innovative and timeless.
