Born in Italy, mother Yugoslavian, father Italian, studied architecture in Rome and lived in Italy, Argentina and now in Australia.
Nicola Finetti sees his life experience as forming part of the influences on his style and creative direction, finding strong inspiration in contrasts. He is influenced by the French Nouvelle Vague, but by far his biggest influence is living life in itself.
All these contradictions are expressed in his designs, surprising us from season to season and giving his creations the power to take the breath away with sensual modern form. His style merges sex with intelligence and femininity with a sophisticated edge.
The Nicola Finetti label was launched in Australia in 1995 and has been selling nationally in leading boutiques and giant department store Myer ever since. The Nicola Finetti accessories are also stocked in Myer and the new menswear range has found its home at David Jones right from its first season.
Nicola Finetti has now secured leading stockists in London, Dublin, Moscow, Athens, Hong Kong, Dubai, Kuwait, LA, New York and Paris. Nicola Finetti is the latest label to gain cult status and inspire interest around the world. The taste for Australian style is spreading internationally.
Nicola Finetti continues to receive great editorial coverage in magazines such Harpers Bazaar, Madison and Russh Australia. During his visit to Australia, Godfrey Deeny from Fashion Wire Daily said that “this designer deserves applause for his determination to push the envelope and break new ground. In a far too derivative Australian season, his is a fresh new voice”.
His work has been bought by Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and he also have from April to June 2002 an Exhibition, 'Sourcing the Muse' at the Powerhouse Museum. The piece is an installation and it is acquired for their permanent collection.
