She is raised in Düsseldorf and soon takes the opportunity to look behind the scenes of exclusive labels, fascinated by the great Italian shows and the flair of the fashion business, and so she spends exciting years of apprenticeship in Italy and France, learning about textile crafts. Back in Germany, she develops her own creative style. In the young designer’s eyes, emotions made of fabric turn into garments. Her first shirt collection is a pure counterforce regarding the strict business looks of the 80s, a comeback of femininity. With the philosophy of regarding women as beautiful beings and multifaceted personalities, she establishes the fashion label
SCHUMACHER in 1989. Operating on an international basis today, she presents the women in Tokyo as well as in New York, London, Paris or Moscow with the lightness and poetry inherent in her fashion.
The implicitness of her combination of contrasts follows a very free life philosophy: Normality is created by uniting contrasts. Dorothee Schumacher is a cosmopolitan creative force, a businesswoman with her feet on the ground, and a mother of four children. She develops new store concepts with great passion, tells about the backstage excitement of the recent runway shows while still loving the laughter of her children close by.
Her fashion designs are created with the same philosophy that combines the diversity of her life: She unites contrasts with a great attention to surprising details that often become apparent only at second glance, thus creating strong fashion statements. As the “heart of the company”, she has extended essential market potentials for more than two decades, while conducting the heartbeat of the company very efficiently in 2011.
