Born in Nagano and living in Tokyo, Tomoaki Okaniwa studied fine art and oil-painting at Tokyo Zoukei university. He started the Viridi-Anne Label when he decided he wanted to create something that could connect to people on the street rather than just hang on a wall in a gallery.
In 2001 s/s, The Viridi-Anne started on. In 2003 August, The Viridi-Anne opened their flag shop in Jingumae Tokyo. In 2006-2007 a/w, presentation and own exhibition in Paris. The main concept is based on the idea of the beauty of simplicity and the effects of time.
Artisanal design with roots in the Japanese Zen ideal of wabi-sabi thus incorporating the beauty of unconventionality, imperfection, incompleteness and affects of natural processes remixed by a contemporary cutting edge vision.
