106 Modem Men’s Modem New York /LA Fall-Winter 2008-2009 Covers by PATRICIA URQUIOLA 2008 DESIGNER Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain, in 1961. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic Institute of Madrid, she continued her studies at the Polytechnic Institute in Milan, having Achille Castiglioni as her thesis rapporteur. From 1990 to 1992 she served as Maestro’s conference assistant and at the same time became a teacher at the ENSCI in Paris. From 1990 to 1996, Patricia Urquiola as Director of the De Padova ’s projects office, has realized interior design projects for several restaurants and shops in Spain, France, Japan, Italy ... In 1996 she headed the Lissoni Associati design studio working for Alessi, Antares-Flos, Artelano, Boffi, Cappellini, Cassina and Kartell. Since 2001, she has created her own agency and continues her work as an independent designer by signing products for B & B, Bosa, De Vecchi, Fasem, Kartell, Liv’it, MDF, Molteni & C., Moroso, Tronconi ... She was elected designer of the year in 2003 by Elle Deco International magazine, in 2006 by Wallpaper Magazine and in 2008 by the parisian design studio Now!Design. The furniture she designed are part of the acquisitions of the most important museums in the world, including the MoMA in New York.
