107 Pedro Almodóvar, in full Pedro Mercedes Almodóvar Caballero (born 1949, Spain), Spanish filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. His movies are vivid in its complex stories, colourful frames, melodramatic elements and often feature explicit sexual themes. In the beginning of 1980’s Almodóvar presented his first feature-length film, Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón (Pepi, Luci, Bom, and Other Girls like Mom). His career goes up after wrote and directed a series of films starring Antonio Banderas , but he won an international acclaim, including an Academy Award nomination for best foreign-language film for the farce Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) in 1988. In 1999, Almodóvar won an Academy Award for best foreign-language film, and was honoured as best director at the Cannes film festival with Todo sobre mi madre (All About My Mother). In 2002, his reputation soared with an Oscar for best original screenplay, in addition to a nomination for best director for his latest movie Hable con ella (Talk to Her). In 2016, Pedro Almodóvar wrote and directed a drama movie, based on several short stories by Alice Munro, Julieta . The film was released in 2016 in Spain and has its international debut at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It was Almodóvar’s fifth film to compete for the Palme d’Or.
