2001 CONTEMPORARY ARTIST Modem Men’s Spring-Summer 2002 Cover by PIERRE HUYGHE 113 Pierre Huyghe (1962, Paris) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose art is centred upon the importance of the image as a semiotic device. The human form itself also has an important role in his work as a system of meanings and relations. In the mid 1980’s Pierre Huyghe graduated at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Huyghe was working with time-based situations, which implied such diverse forms as living systems, objects, films, photographs, drawings and music. Huyghe’s work can thus be viewed as essentialist; everything has to exist as part of a unity and cannot exist in isolation. His works has been exhibited at numerous international establishments, such as Irish Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City, the Pompidou Centre (Paris). He has also won several awards, including the Roswitha Haftmann Prize  (2013), the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Contemporary Artist Award ( 2010), t he Nasher Prize (2017). In 2002, Huyghe won the Hugo Boss Prize from the Guggenheim Museum and exhibited several works there the following year.
