115 2011 ARCHITECTE Modem Women’s Milano Modem Women’s Paris Fall-Winter 2011-2012 Covers by REM KOOLHAAS The Dutch architect and urbanist Rem Koolhaas, b orn in Rotterdam in 1944, he is today considered as the « Guru » of contemporary architecture, and his famous books - Delirious NewYork (1978) and S, M, L, XL (1995) - became key reference theoritical analysis for the new generations of architects. In 1975, he was a founding partner of OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) and led the urbanism and architecture projects that would make him famous. Among his numerous projects : the development of the new center for the French city of Lille, the Dutch ambassy in Berlin, the Seattle public Library, the House of Music in Porto, the headquarters of Chinese television in Beijing and a few contemporary art museums such as the Whitney Museum in New York, the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, both Guggenheim Museums in Las Vegas and the Seoul National University Museum, the Prada Foundation of Milan. His career was awarded the most prestigious international prizes : the Equerre d’Argent in 1998, the Pritzker Prize in 2004 and the Mies vas der Rohe Award in 2005. Also, he received the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement on the occasion of the 12th International Exhibition of Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2010, as he wished to show his interests and preoccupations concerning the public heritage preservation with his « Cronocaos » exhibition. “... we have to stop freezing cities, buildings, or entire parts of the world.
