BIOGRAPHICAL CATALOG OF THE MODEM'S COVERS AUTHORS

137 2005 CONTEMPORARY ARTIST Modem Women’s Milano Modem Women’s Paris Fall-Winter 2005-2006 Covers by TONY OURSLER Tony Oursler, a polyvalent artist, “sculptor of video projection”, born in New York in 1957. The staging of his imaginary repertoire is composed of unreal figures, voices, speeches, faces that animate: entrenched areas (staircase, room corners), exterior spaces (street facades, museum windows, public gardens ) or the atmosphere by projection on smoke (cover of this edition). All his works are aesthetic simulacrums in which the ghostly or distorted human form induces the spectator to reflect on the neuroses caused by media, religious, familial conditioning, social upheaval ... Main characteristics of our metropolitan culture. Tony Oursler was discovered by the public of contemporary art in the 90’s. He began his creative research career in 1977. At that time, as a student at the Los Angeles Art Institute, he met Mike Kelley. Together they founded the rock- punk band The Poetics. Until 1983, the two artists undertook multiple experiments in cultural mixing: theater, dance, performances ... with the participation of several personalities from the American artistic avant-garde such as John Cage, Alan Vega, Dan Graham .. . This particularity will differentiate them from the current conceptual and minimalist in vogue at the time. Today Tony Oursler’ s work has become a reference for the public of contemporary art and for a new generation of artists.
