25 Born in Montana in 1946, David Lynch attended Fine Arts courses in 1965 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Throughout his career as a director, screenwriter, producer (from his first fe- ature film Eraser-head to Inland Empire in 2007), this prolific artist has never stopped painting, drawing, photographing, creating animations, he even extends the field of his artistic explorations to musical composition and sound creation. The Air Is On Fire exhibition was born out of the profusion in David Lynch’s studio where, among the paintings, are the labeled files containing many drawings and photographs preserved from the high school years to the present day never shown. Revealed to Hervé Chandès , director of the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, these works are gathered here in a scenography created by David Lynch himself who recreates the particular and fantasmatic atmosphere that cros- ses the unique work of this immense artist. In September 2006, David Lynch received a Golden Lion for his entire work at La Mostra in Venice.
