26 Deidi von Schaewen (1941, Berlin) is a German, Paris-based photograph, who gain a reputation with her architectural photos by immortalizing the achieve- ments of the greatest contemporary architects - from Ricardo Bofill to Frank Gehry, from Tadao Ando to Jean Nouvel; but also, she pursues in her personal work another obsession: capturing the ephemeral, the testimonies of our urban and rural civilizations brought to disappear. After studying painting at the School of Fine Arts in Berlin, Deidi von Schaewen chose photography as a way of expression. She traveled the world on the lookout for the unexpected and realized numerous of exhibitions presented at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris (1974), the Pompidou Center in Paris (1977), the Miró Foundation (Spain), in the Pièce Unique3 Gallery in Paris (2005) . Among the collective exhibitions the artist was exposed at the Biennial of Archi- tecture in Paris(1986) the Biennial of Contemporary Art in Lyon (2001), among others. Since the 1990’s, Deidi von Schaewen collaborated with Editions Taschen and published his photographs of French gardens. She also marvels unused Cairo cars wrapped in plain or multicolored fabrics, waiting for gasoline or repair. Since 1972 she has been making films and videos.
