Without it, and without the ultimate memory of the architecture I wish to preserve, my works would not exist ” Georges Rousse. Since that Christmas, age 9, when he was given a present, the mythical Brownie Flash, Georges Rousse , the nomadic artist born in Paris in 1947, has never been without that camera. Having set up his own studio for the photography of architecture, his passion has motivated him into devoting himself entirely to the artistic practice of this discipline after such American grand masters as Steichen, Stieglitz or Ansel Adams. It is on discovering Land Art and Malevitch’s black square on a white background that Georges Rousse chose to intervene on the photographic scene by establi- shing a new relationship between painting and Space. An untiring traveler of the five continents, he has invaded empty factories, for- gotten houses, buildings ready for demolition... abandoned places that he tran- sforms into pictorial spaces in which to construct ephemeral, unique works, which photography alone can bring to the public eye. Georges Rousse has accomplished a metaphysical experiment with his camera, and invites us to discover “another time, another space”.
