56 Design Paris January 2007 Design Milano April 2007 Covers by JAVIER MARISCAL 2007 Born in Valencia in 1950, Javier Mariscal establishes himself in the early 70s in Barcelona where he goes to a design school: Elisava. In the early 80s he takes part in the Memphis Group which revolves around Ettore Sottsass . Often present with his cartoons in El Vibora he also creates famous posters in the history of the Movida. As a multidisciplinary designer Javier Mariscal expresses a unique style thru cartoons, illustration, graphic & industrial design, painting, sculpture, anima- tion, multimedia projects... His reasoning always implied a duality between a purely artistic creation (which he never abandoned) and managing his design studio Estudio Mariscal in Barcelona. During his career he imagined the identity of the Barcelona Zoo, drew Cobi the mascot for the 1992 games, conceived the Madrid candidacy for the 2012 games, the Acuarinto game for the interactive Nagasaki amusement park, the interior design of the Lihthouse-Scotland’s Centre for Architecture, partici- pated to numerous exhibitions as an artist, designer, stage designer, he also conceived furniture for adults and children, participated in social & educatio- nal programs, set up shows...
